Music folder question
January 5, 2009 on 9:16 pm | By | In bluefreesky.com | Music folder questionmusic/vid/trailers etc... etc... used to work no problem. now that i updated movies, pics etc... folders works fine but my music folder is no longer browsable (and hangs if i try a search). i've got quite a few folders (maybe 100) is this related to the folder bug i read about or something else?

i think i know the problem... delete your settings. if you were last in music window that doesnt exist anymore (ie albums) before the upgrade, it could cause an issue like this.
delete settings and re-download? i think i reset to the default settings once but no joy. mind you i didn't delete my saved settings at all. i'll try first deleting w/out reinstall, then a reinstall.

set your loglevel to zero in xboxmediacenter.xml. reload xbmc. enter my music. copy xbmc.log to your computer and post it here.

do you have a default tag in your music shares? (a bad default tag should be ok. in that case its supposed to show you the root bookmark list.) don't think so...i tagged music carefully on transfer to the xbox to make sure it fit format. music's played ok before so i don't think it's that. music still plays ok from the file finder program, it's something to do with the mymusic option.
what skin are you using? the default skin, or an alternate skin?

what do you mean by album info? if you mean the allmusic.com lookups, you can try to rename your musicdb to something else. that will cause xbmc to create a new one. yes, sorry, couldn't remember the term. they are from the allmusic.com dbase.
i dont think it's the number of folders. i have a share with just under 300 folders in its root and thats fine. besides, the problem with the folders only occurs once you enter the offending folder/share that has many subfolders. and by many, i mean more than 1000.
guess i've got a few more folders i can add then :) thks. i'll try the logging to see what's what. i'm loathe to try jmarshall's suggestion of deleting the music dbase and re-transfer it all back, but if all else fails then i suppose i will.

i enter say my video section and see my c,d,e,f,g drives as well as network shares etc... everything works flawlessly for video and pictures. weather's not a problem but i've not tried movie trailers. i get the rss feeds ok too. it's just music.
when i enter the music section see absolutely nothing in the pane where the folders of my music usually are. i see the options on the left side of the screen (e.g. view etc..., but 1/2 of them cause the machine to lock up) i think i've tried nearly all possible setup combinations under music preferences to no avail. i'll try changing skins to see if that helps.
any guesses otherwise?
what skin are you using? there also were some recent changes to my music section where some windows were removed. i've run into a situation where skins that are not up to date with this change can show a blank filelist.
i suspect, however, that the reason it's not working is due to the database. the logs will tell the story.
the music database has had code added to it recently to hopefully prevent having to delete it at each upgrade, but this possibly wasn't in place at the time of your old version.
at any rate, the logs will probably yield what the next step will be.

edit, its xml. open it up. what's your value of
hold down x+y on boot will cause it to switch to full debugging.

any chance the movie trailer or 'myprograms' is an easy fix? not critical in that i don't use them often, but my wife does like her movie trailers. :)

i suggest you rename your music database (xbmc/albums/mymusic6.db) and see what happens then.
i'll check this when i get home. my cleanup of the old music windows may have missed a few things in the settings. this would explain this issue being reported a few times now.

sadly it is 10501... wish it weren't so that'd worked. :)
edit: re-download didn't work. it's bizzare, 1/2 the selections on the left of the mymusic section cause the machine to hang. might it be the album info i d-loaded for my folders? also, there are 101 folders in my music folder on e:
