There are all kinds of materials that laser engraving can be done on and plastic is just one of those so here are some great tips for engraving plastic.

The plastic sheet stock has a colored base and it has a very thin layer of a second color that is laminated to the top of it. The laser engraves the thin top layer which allows the bottom color to be revealed. Stunning!

The laser is also able to cut the sheet so that you can cut signs, badges, tabs, and a host of other types of applications. This type of plastic is highly under rated and not used nearly enough. In fact for years it has not been used to its full potential. Take note and start to use plastic way more.

Here are some tips to help you along.

1. Limit the amount of power you use to engrave. When you see a haze from the top color turn up the heat 5%. That's the optimum power range.

2. Use an acrylic cleaning solution to remove the smoke residue.

3. Use the transfer tape to mask the top side to eliminate the smoke residue when you start to engrave.

4. Some colors require the laser to make two passes rather than the traditional one. Use 2 or 2.5 inch lens

5. Always clean your laser optics after you are done your project. This help extend the life of your laser and it will have your laser ready to go next time you want to cut.

6. If you want to create the effect of three colors you just add a foil to the top of the plastic and then vector cut before you engrave which will add extra color to your product.
