Computer back up with windows reinstall?

  • I have been having some problems with my version of XP Pro, and I am planning on installing XP Home on my computer.

    So I am wondering if I can do what I am thinking of in terms of backing up my stuff, pictures, videos, music ect. ect. I have 2 separate drives, well... I have 3 but they are set up for raid 5. I am wondering if I can just transfer all the stuff I want to save from my C drive (message histories, bookmarks, desktop, ect. ect.) onto my D drive and only wipe my C drive, and my other one. Then just connect my D drive back up and transfer over the stuff I saved from C?

    Really I am just trying to avoid a burning marathon or buying an external drive.
