Xbmc + kai=freeze

  • hi,
    i have noticed that from build of 31-03 xbmc freeze when i enter on kai.
    ex:when i create my own arena,when i enter in other arena, when i explore my friend's list etc etc
    sometimes crash after few seconds sometimes i have the time to start to create a new private arena but i cant finish to create because xbmc crash h :veryangry:

    instead if i don't use kai xbmc doesn't freeze, i can listen music, play video and games without problem.

    i delete the folder of xmbc and all profiles (tdata & udata), i tried many builds of april but the problem still remain.

    my xbox is:
    xbox version 1.4
    xodus with xecuter 4983 (i tried also m8 bios)
    unleash is as dash (latest build)

  • well try deleting the contents of e:\cache not the whole folder. my friend had a kai folder in there.


  • i have the same problem. my xbmc freezes everytime a friend of mine is online with kai too. i then have to restart my xbox.

    if my friend (which is in my buddylist) is not online, then kai works perfectly. i can play with other users online via system-link.

    my xbmc build is 11.04.2005 .. i will try a new build this weekend.

    have not yet tried to remove my friend from my buddylist (i currently only have one buddy in my list).

  • so for 11 days you've tried and hasn't worked???

    update to a newer build. i still say its orb related, but maybe my problem was a coincidence.

    in this time i have restarted kai and pc many times. ;)

  • alright... i just slept on it and i have a thought about what may be causing the problem...

    i haven't been able to confirm what sanguemisto said about deleteing his buddies and then it doesn't crash kai but that gave me an idea... i'm the only one of my friends who have a kai avatar. so that means when they load kai their xbmc tries to download my avatar and display next to my name. i think that is what is causing kai to crash. i beleive this becuase if you read my previous post... our setups are identical except the fact (i didn't realize til this morning) that their kai has to load an avatar for someone on their buddie list; mine does not.

    so the downloading or the displaying of avatars should be looked into.

    this is just an idea. but it makes sense as it's the only difference i can think of. i'll try and confirm soon.

    ps this is a very important topic to me and just about every i know that uses xbmc as we really love the kai interface that's built in for it's ease of use. all help is very much appreciated!


  • i found the problem. :d

    i deleted all my friend's list and xbox don't crash !!!(tested for 30 mins)

    but if add anyone contact to my list xbox crashes. :(

    how can i solve my problem???

  • same problem here, and now is happening more often.
    i use kaistation in wrt router.


  • my friend and i were having the same problem last night. it seemed to be related to what orbital server we connected to.

    all i can say is try again, i don't think it's xbmc related. by the way he uses his pc and i use my router to run kai.

  • update... my xbox is now locking up when running kai. this is new as it was working fine an hour ago and i haven't changed any software or settings in that time. got me folks.


  • i installed a new build(11.04)

    i delete e/cache and all profiles and files in tdata e udata.

    i set new profiles.

    i tried for half an hour a webradio no problems (no freeze)

    i started kai and xbox freeze :veryangry: :veryangry: :veryangry:

    please help me!!!!!


  • i have tried many builds from 31-3, last is 09-04.
    i will try a new build as soon as possible.

    i will also write down the orbital server name.(but it is impossibile that was also the same :) )


  • i would stop the engine. either on your pc/mac or router and restart it. reboot xbox and see if it connects to a different server. that was our problem. it's been working fine all day today with april 11th build.


  • i installed a 4.12.05 build on my box yesterday and kai works fine for me. i put the same build on two of my friends boxes and if kai is running when their xbox is turned on it freezes (locks/crashes) everytime (shortly after kai connection). if i simply shut down the kai engine the problem does not happen. all three have the same kernel. all the xbox are softmodded (identical softmods). i wiped the tdataand udata xbmc temp folders. i also deleted the contents of the cache folder. i tried my xbox on his network using his kai engine and it never locked up. help much appreciated!!!!


  • i found this in the changelog. i hope it works! will try soon. (this was the most recent change in the log as of this post.)
