I wonder if you would feel the same if it was your daughter/sister/gf , tampered evidence, poor investigation or a good lawyer. Changes the outcome of a case.
There should be some kind of retribution for the victim. It should be her choice, if the CONVICTED killer should get corporal punishment or if the victim forgives and forgets. Lets the criminal serve his time for serious offences.

i wonder how you would feel if you were wrongly accused of a crime like murder, and thrown in jail for the rest of your life, or worse hung/chair/leathal injectioned etc?

Very well put, however, we are talking about potential sex-offenders and the crime was caught on tape - I don't thinkt here's much doubt about them being guilty or not, it's a matter of how hard they are going to come down on them.

I don't believe in life in prison, I wish hangings and firing squads were still around, cheap and painful. Fuck this whole forgive and forget, and put them in jail for life. Wasting my money, reading books and watching tv. While this poor girl has to pay for counseling, popping pills and live with this guilt.

We should use their organs and help people. That want to live life and be a contribution to society.

some of the comments in this thread, while understandable from an emotional-response point of view, are pretty scary when you think about the mindset behind them (if the people saying them are being serious). fortunately, we have a justice system administered by highly qualified, experienced and educated people, who have the integrity and the wisdom to interpret the law fairly and with an understanding of the law and of justice and the many weighty issues involved. there's a reason why people who don't have those qualifications are not put in positions of power within the justice system.. because then we wouldn't have a justice system. and the world is full of examples of how shitty it is to live under that sort of regime.

i guess this is why im not a lawyer or judge.
that was more or less my point. people who are lawyers and judges can't be the ones saying stuff like, "put them in front of a firing squad" etc. before there's even been a fair trial (unless you're in a place like afghanistan).
of course the system is flawed. but look around the world and you'll see it's a lot better than most.
they doubled her sentence because she spoke out about it and from their perspective she was trying to disrupt the administration of justice. these are the same people who cut off heads and hands with swords, in public.

for real. it was in a remote rural area where it's pure tribal 'justice'. when the higher courts found out about it, they tried and convicted the men involved. that kind of thing happens a lot in places like pakistan, nigeria etc. but rarely gets reported. luckily in this case the victim was courageous enough to speak out about it, and a lot of people supported her.
Hope this girl will turn out all right and not some damaged ass junkie like happens all to commonly. Saw numerous interrogations (on video) while working for a Criminal Lawyer in my co-op program that involved rape and gang rape. I watched the videos and transcribed the dialog for use in court files. Most of these guys are just pure cold hearted, unemotionable, unregretful peices of human trash.

Also, if they spent time in jail now and were subsequently convicted, a 3 for 1 deal regarding time served would shorten their jail time by that ratio.

armed robbery = 10 yrs, no bail, no parole.
sex crimes = 15 yrs, no bail, no parole.
shooting / stabbing = 20 yrs, no bail, no parole.
murder = life, no bail, no parole.
