Have you seen this play?

  • 'The Methamorphosis'.

Franz Kafka, I believe. Or something similar.

Please give me any details or memories you have of it.

Pleas don't answer if you have not seen of it, or have never heard of it.

I would love some information and opinion.

  • The play Metamorphosis is based on a book of the same name by Franz Kafka. The central character, Gregor, is transformed into a beetle & the play shows the reactions of his family & friends. They gradually reject him. The play also deals with how we deal with 'misfits' in society & how difficult it can be to relate to society. It ends with Gregor's death. It's visually a very powerful play; the actor playing Gregor has to be able to convey the fact that he is a monstrous creature by how he uses his body & how he uses his stage. The set must allow Gregor an area of his own; ideally with facilities for climbing. He must engage the sympathy of the audience. The part is physically very demanding. The other characters can come across as being somewhat like pantomime characters. If you Google Metamorposis you will find plenty of information. If you get a chance to see the play do go; it's well worth seeing.
    I hope this helps.

  • It's not a play, it's a novella. A short novel.

Is about a guy that wakes up and finds himself morphed into a spider, or roach (depend on which version you read)

  • Kaftka's short story was the original, so I would definitely read it again to get a feel for Greta - she's much deeper in the story, with all sorts of gender- and class-issue fun.
