  • 'What You Get for the Money' is a thirty minute television show that airs on both the HGTV (Home and Garden television) and Fine Living networks. We are bringing our cameras to Brooklyn the week of June 11 and we're looking for outgoing homeowners/ design enthusiasts to share their homes and their stories.

    The homes need to be stylishly designed and similar to what one might find in magazines such as Dwell or Metropolitan Home, and the value of the homes need to be within the range of 150K to 1M. Each episode of ‘What You Get for the Money’ includes background information about the featured city, community, lifestyle, and housing costs. We will see the homeowners in their home and out in the community, but the focus will be on the home itself and the lifestyle that you get for the given price – in other words, what you get for the money!

  • Perhaps we've finally reached a saturation point where everyone who WANTS to be on TV can now do so, without the indignity of having a dozen production crew treading through your house?


  • Bunch of downers, you guys are.

    Obviously, the people who would want to do this are people whose homes are for sale -- if your home is currently for sale you could see it as a "free ad."

    The cable company (HGTV) gets free locations, and they sell ads and they make money, the brokers get their smiling faces on TV for free, and they count that as advertising, and they're happy, and the homeowner gets to showcase their home in a professionally-shot video, and they're happy.

  • These folks were begging for homeowners in cold calls to Real Estate companies not too long ago. To answer Lofter's question, homeowners get nothing - nada - zilch.

    How does a show concept ever get greenlighted if the producers need to publicly beg for people to come on? Talk about your desperation. Time to go on hiatus.

  • you're right. But good luck with that, lead time from film to airing can be months. So if your place is still on the market by the time it airs...
