  • I uninstalled my modem (all I remember of the name is Fax Modem Smart CP or something similar). It's on my Acer Aspire 5050. When I did the "add new hardware", it recognized a standard built in modem, but cannot locate the fax modem. I've tried Everet and it doesn't show up there either. Any suggestions?


  • Go to the Control Panel.
    Click on System.
    Click on Hardware.
    Click on Device Manager.
    Click the plus sign next to Modems.
    Is your modem listed there?
    If there's a red X, try right clicking on the modem name and maybe you can find something to enable it?
