  • I was wondering how much a puppy rhodesian ridgeback would cost nowadays.


  • I had a ridgeback and he was the very best dog I have had yet. A hero, a guardian angel, a soulmate.

    However, you must research this breed thoroughly. For although they have many good qualities, they are known to be master-countersurfers and table-sharks. They will destroy anything to get at a hint of a drop, a crumb or the smell of food. They are also prone to severe separation anxiety, and will destroy your home because you aren't there. They also need extra amounts of exercise.

    My sweet boy has gone through 6 sets of bi-fold doors, floors, woodwork, chairs and couches. I have witnessed first hand a room full of pillow-feathers. He has opened and eaten a can of sardines, and at the same sitting ate a package of Rolos and half a bottle of Tums. I have found teeth marks in dog food cans. Shoes, garbage, tissues. I am thankful he couldn't open the fridge. We would have to leave newspapers on the floor for him to destroy while we weren't home, or else he would get the couch or my clothes. He's stolen burgers off of a hot grill!

    And yet he was handsome, loving and had a HUGE tongue. He saved my crawling child from the stairs and me from rabid racoons. He loved to cuddle and was king of the waterbed. They love extreme heat, extreme comfort, are extremely alert, and will guard you in a friendly, restrained manner, waiting for your lead. They are also HIGHLY intelligent.

    If you research this magnificent breed and find you prefer the companionship of a ridgeback to a room full of good furniture, I would be sure you find a local breeder, so you can visit their grounds and hopefully the mom of the litter. Kennels who don't allow visitors are not to be trusted.

    Also, our baby was a reject. That is, he wasn't of show quality and was sold for companionship only. Reputable breeders will offer up these "rejects" at a greatly reduced price. The one we got had been rescued from a mill where they usually destroy dogs not of show quality. Only a small percentage of good ridged dogs are born in a litter.

    Again, please research before you take on this breed.


  • in AUS you can get them for $1500 from a registered breeder, my friends got one. it sorta depends where u live though
