  • ok, i am starting to experiment, and want to put some mp3 files over to my xbox. i can ftp over, drop file in there, navigate to the files in the file manager type area of xbmc, play them, but do you think i can get them to appears as albums in the music area?

i have f:\music\albums\ created, and my path is set to f:\music\albums.

i have my music filed on my pc hdd as "\\", so as an example i have something like "...\frankie goes to hollywood\bang\relax.mp3".

does xbmc handle that type of config (spaces and all), or do i need to flatten the directory structure so that my pink floyd, australian crawl, fgth, metallica, fargone beauties, and vivaldi are all at the same level.

now i have been told eslewhere, that spaces should be ok in a folder name, and i have ftp'd the above fgth album under my f:\music\album directory, but i'd really like to have the album appear as part of a search when i go in to play music. are there any database files i need to delete to make sure everything is clean? i'm at a loss here.

documentation on this area seems pretty slim, and perhaps its obvious, but help! :help:

  • i actually went through, and upgraded to 1.1 (dec8 release?), and blew away the existing databases. i then went into file view, and scanned the mp3 selection. i can't recall seeing that an an option i could access previously - though i was able to navigate and play the mp3 manually like this.

    eitherway, it is working now.

    thanks for the help.

  • that's fine. *my directory structure is identical to that. *but, it doesnt matter what your directory structure is. *xbmc will present it you exactly as it is on your server if you use files view.

if you want the non-files views to work, just click on scan and wait for it to finish. *(a note on scanning... it requires that the music files be tagged correctly. *it does not infer anything from your directory structure.)

if you want to make sure your db is clean first, you can delete myalbums#.db from your albums folder.
