  • Is Van Gohs "Scream" there??? Or Last Supper??

Also is the line for the Mona Lisa really long???

  • I went in the summer. The Mona Lisa is now in a large room, so there's no queuing, and you can easily shuffle through to get a look at her reasonable close. In the same room is the large Marriage at Cana, and you'll find The Virgin of the Rocks on the way to the Mona Lisa. Be warned - the Louvre is HUGE and there are several wings with very different types of art, including Ancient Greek stuff. One session was enough for me, but you can buy passes for several days. Also on the way to the Mona Lisa are the very large heroic French paintings. And look at the architecture of the place - it's something else!

  • Van Gogh didn't paint the scream you silly billy - it was Munch. Last Supper is a fresco, i.e. it was painted directly on to a wall and therefore can't be moved. It's in a monastery chapel in Italy.

In the Louvre there's Gericault's Raft Of The medusa which you shouldn't miss (not that you can easily cos it's huge) and Deacroix's Liberty Leading The People. Couple of Michelangelo statues i seem to recall

If you look on the Louvre website there's lots of thematic trails including one on the main masterpieces
