  • I hate my life and want to start over. If I leave the country now, I will be unable to return. So, to return I must be under a different name. If I change my name by joining the French Foreign Legion, and the United States some how gets my DNA or blood sample when I return, my legal records would say that I'm John Doe from France, but my DNA would prove otherwise.

Could the US take legal action against me?

  • Enlistment in the Foreign Legion is for 5 years. You can enlist under a nom de guerre but it's not encouraged anymore. The US could take action to strip you of your citizenship if you rise to a high enough rank, but I've never heard of it being done.

You can find everything you need to know here....

  • You don't want to join the FFL.
Pay 75 bucks to court and change name legally and move to a new city...unless of course you are wanted for a crime

I read a book about FFL....
    it said...

even if you are castrated, cuckolded, and thrown into a Turkish prison for a crime you did not commit....DO NOT JOIN THE FOREIGN LEGION!

  • Statute of limitations would run out on almost anything you could have done. Enlistment is (was, anyway) for 20 years! Unless you are dodging a murder charge you should be safe.

  • sure -- if there's a court order. However, you will not be granted leave to return "anonymously". If you wish to return as a citizen from another country, a background check will be done on you. If you wish to return under a new name, your records WILL follow you.

If you simply want to change your name to avoid your family, do THAT. Just petition to have your name changed. This isn't very difficult. The government will know who you really are, but unless there is some sort of legal action against you, they won't release it willy-nilly
