  • I'm gathering support documents to sponsor my partner here in Canada. Most of our letters from 10 years ago are missing. I don't know what to do. Should i be honest in our application and let the Immigration officer know in advance or just submit what i have? any thoughts? thank you so much

  • You absolutely need to tell the truth. There is virtually nothing that could be missing that couldn't be fixed. Even negative things in your past, such as minor criminal confictions (i.e. shoplifting) can be fixed if you are honest with immigration. However, if you are caught lying on a form, you could get a permanent bar, since USCIS treats it the same as perjury which is a felony (and you could be charged with perjury, though that probably never happens).

If you are facing significant issues, I would talk to an immigration attorney to make sure everything is presented favorably.

  • Absolutely.
I sponsored my wife and daughter and the first thing that I was told by my paid consultant was don't lie.
Show them with as much proof as possible that this is a real relationship. Pictures, letters, e-mails, tickets if you were visiting his or her country. Phone records. The works. Break it down into separate years, etc.

    Be as explicit as possible.

Be as up front as possible if you are missing documents. Provide a separate paper for it.

They want to know if this is a genuine relationship.

Good Luck and if you don't succeed then try again.
