  • I am 14 years old and want to earn money to help me buy a MacBook can someone please suggest a way to do it (i want to get it in 2 years, it costs about £1000) any help will be great

    ps. Please dont suggest Paper Boy (you get almost no money)


  • Your options are limited. Most businesses want you to be 16 to hire you for gainful employment.

    Time to be inventive,
    My suggestions to you:

    Make up flyers and pass them around in your neighborhood.
    Offer to do whatever work it is you want to do, such as :

    Computer work, Babysit, Clean Garages, Organize Cupboards, File Papers, Wash Cars, Mow Lawns, Pull Weeds, Tutor the neighbors kids, Walk/wash Dogs, Dog sit, Clean the Pool, Assist the elderly, whatever...

    Post first whatever it is you want to do or are good at ... you don't have to be a paperboy if you prefer to do other jobs.
    But:
    You should keep your options open and make a decision after the persons call you instead of not giving them many reasons to call.

    Say you are a student and available to work on weekends also.

    Let me begin by saying that I respect you very much for your will to work in order to buy something you desire.

    To begin a job search you must first write a resume. It's perfectly normal not having previous job experiences, employers won't expect a 14 years old young man to have much experience or any. Write a little resume; here is a great example:

    In your resume include your personal traits such as being responsible, serious, attentive to details.

    Once you have that in hand, the last step is to look for a job.

    My suggestion to you would be to apply in a restaurant near your residence, a convinence store, a supermarket, a drug store. Trust me those places hire young students like you very often and with ease.

    For instance walk into a supermarker and ask for the manager, they will hand you a simple formular for you to fill. Once that is done, attach your resume to it and hand it to the responsible person.

    Then go home and sleep tight, they will call you within a week or so.

    Now my advice to you is, don't try to be too picky, at your age there are many options to find a job, meaning you have some choice and variety, but all of those works are not that cool so you'll have to learn at the bottom of the ladder and climb up in society. Work will give you great life experience. Another advice is to find a job that is as close to your house as possible so you don't have to waste much time in a subway or a bus.

    So, supermarkets, restaurants, fast food restaurants, convinence/drug stores, comic book stores, book stores etc etc :)

    My best of luck to you and I am more than sure that you will find a job and buy that computer in less than 2 years.
